For the ladies too, Texel can be a nice day out, while your husbands are inspecting or buying sheep and lambs from the Texel sheep breeders.Just put on a pair of jeans and a sweater and explore our island on a tandem or a bike. In this way, you will be close to nature and be able to enjoy the quiet and the rural atmosphere.
How and whereto?
To begin with, you can rent a bike or a tandem straight off the ferry at F. Heijne. Leave all your day-to-day worries behind and take the cycling path to Den Burg. A cup of coffee with home-made apple pie is waiting for you at De Burgwal 37. Then you continue towards Oudeschild. On the way, you will pass De Bewaarplaats. A bit further on, you will see 'De Pluktuin'. Here you can pick some delicious fruit or some beautiful flowers yourself. If you have drank in of this delightful piece of Texel, you cycle towards De Koog, where you can admire the seals in Ecomare, or towards Den Hoorn, through the forest and the dunes to Paal 9, where you can take a walk on the beach and enjoy a bite or a drink afterwards.
But then it will be time to cycle on back, so towards the ferry. And look, the men have returned as well and just in time! As always, you return home weary, but you will have gained many happy memories.

A day out on Texel? Go by bike! Discover Texel by bike, an excellent idea. You will find over 135 kilometres of cycling paths on Texel. Our bike hire firm is located close to the ferry on Texel. Rent a bike where the boat docks.

De Zelfpluktuin
What can you pick in the Zelfpluktuin?
Soft fruits: strawberries, currants, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries and gooseberries.
Flowers: over a hundred different kinds of summer flowers. You can put together colourful bouquets or dry them for the most beautiful bouquets of dried flowers.
We grow natural products, so you will understand that the supply varies with time. Not everything flowers at the same time and not everything is ripe at the same time.
You are welcom from mid-May (when the first strawberries are red) until the end of September. Mondays to Saturdays from 9.30 to 17.30.

Ecomare
In Ecomare there are several temporary exhibitions every year. So a visit to the centre is always a new experience! Ecomare devotes attention to topical subjects to do with nature and the environment, Texel, the Wadden Sea area and the North Sea.
